    Preheat oven to 375 degrees

    Peel apples and slice into 1/2-inch thick slices

  • 3

    Toss apples with almond extract

  • 4

    Combine sugar and flour and toss with apples

  • 5

    Roll out the puff-pastry and cut to make an 11 inch circle. Transfer pastry to a parchment lined baking sheet

    Arrange apples in a single layer in a circular pattern to completely cover pastry

    Dot top with butter

  • 8

    Bake for 40 minutes or until apples are tender

  • 9

    Heat apricot preserves in a small saucepan until melted. Strain preserves and stir in brandy

    Brush over apples to glaze

  • 11

    Immediately sprinkle with toasted almonds

    Let cool 10 minutes and cut into wedges to serve.

  • 4 medium Granny Smith apples
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 3 tablespoons cold butter, cut up
  • 1/2 cup apricot preserves
  • 1 tablespoon brandy
  • 1/2 cup toasted sliced almonds
