Place sugar, water, vinegar and salt in a small saucepan

Bring to a boil, stirring until sugar dissolves

Reduce heat and simmer until sauce is syrupy, but do not allow sauce to caramelize, about 15 minutes

Remove from heat and stir in the chili paste

Cool and refrigerate up to 5 days. Yield: 1 cup SUGGESTED USE: This is the traditional sauce served with Thai BBQ chicken
