Combine sugar and water in large pot

Over medi- um heat, stir until sugar is dissolved

Reduce heat to simmer gently for 5 minutes. Cut dried fruit into small pieces and add to sim- mering syrup

Add almonds, nuts, cinnamon, and allspice

Cover and simmer until fruits are tender, approximately 8 to 12 minutes. Remove from heat and let stand until lukewarm

Remove cinnamon stick

Add pomegranate seeds

Place into individual serving dishes

Chill before serving

Top with walnuts and whipped cream and serve

DRIED FRUIT COMPOTE
ingredients
- 2/3 cup sugar (or 1/2 cup honey)
- 4 1/2 cups water
- 3 cups dried fruit
- 2/3 cup halved blanched almonds
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 3 tsp. allspice
- 1/2 cup pomegranate seeds (optional)
- chopped walnuts
- whipped cream
