    Beat the egg yolks and sugar in the bowl until blended

    Slowly beat in the milk, then thoroughly stir in the cream

  • 3

    Refrigerate this mixture while you beat the egg whites until they form soft peaks

  • 4

    Pour chilled mixture into a punch bowl and add rum or brandy

  • 5

    Top with the beaten egg whites, and stir deeply a few times

  • 6

    Sprinkle the nutmeg or cinnamon over the foamy surface and carefully ladle into cups so as not to disturb the foam

  • 7

    Makes six servings.

  • 6 eggs, separated
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 quart mil,
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg or cinnamon
  • 9 ounces rum or brandy
