    Beat egg yolks

    Add powdered sugar slowly and beat well

    Then add nuts and crumbled zwieback and mix well

  • 4

    Next add spices and beat thoroughly

    Fold in beat- en egg whites. Spread batter in pan and add butter

  • 6

    Bake 25-30 min- utes in oven 375F

  • 7

    While still warm, pour syrup over cake, and let soak in

  • 8

    (See recipe for syrup below.) Cut cake in small squares and serve.

  • 1 pound shelled walnuts (ground finely)
  • 12 slices Zweiback toast
  • 1 pound powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon each of cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg
  • 1 stick butter
  • 12 eggs
