    Mix milk, melted lard, soda, salt, and baking powder

    To this add enough flour to make a stiff dough

    Roll on floured board about 1/4 inch thick

    Cut in 4 inch squares

  • 5

    Put 3 tablespoons applesauce seasoned to taste with sugar and cinnamon on each square

    Fold over dough and press edges together

  • 7

    Put each dumpling into its own muslin sack

  • 8

    Drop into kettle of boiling water in which there is a rack

    Boil 30 minutes

  • 10

    Serve with cream or hard sauce.

  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon soda
  • 1 tablespoon lard or margarine
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder flour
  • 2 cups of applesauce
  • sugar and cinnamon to taste
