Mix dry ingredients together

Dissolve yeast in warm water

Beat together egg and cheese until smooth

Add melted shortening and yeast. Combine all ingredients in a large mixing bowl, adding flour mixture in small amounts and blending thoroughly after each addition

Form a stiff dough

Cover dough with a tea towel and allow to rise in a warm place for an hour or until dough has doubled in size. After dough has doubled, punch dough down and knead for one minute

Place dough in a well-greased loaf or casserole pan

Cover and allow to rise again for 40 minutes

Bake in a preheated 350F

oven for 50 min- utes or until bread sounds hollow when tapped with a spoon

WILD SAGE BREAD
ingredients
- 1 package dry yeast
- 1 cup cottage cheese
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon lard or other shortening, melted
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 2 teaspoon crushed dried wild sage
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 cup lukewarm water
- 2-1/2 cups flour
