Sift dry ingredients into mixing bowl

Mix in lard or shortening with finger tips. To make sour milk you can put 1 tablespoon of white cider vinegar into a 1 cup measuring cup, then fill with milk

Let stand at room temperature for an hour or so

Add sour milk or buttermilk

Mix into a soft and spongy dough

Turn out onto a lightly floured board, roll 1/2 inch thick, and cut into biscuit circles

Lightly flour shallow pan or cookie sheet, place biscuits not too close together, and bake for 12 minutes

Makes 1-1/2 dozen.

- 2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon soda
- 2 tablespoons lard or shortening
- 1 cup sour milk or buttermilk
